Dear
Friend,

Most of us have a plan for our lives. Sometimes, we start moving
through the steps and then life throws us a curve ball. How can we be
ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of life?
As I become more accustomed to reaching out for resources, I find I am more
prepared--for when a sick child needs extra attention, when an issue
arises at work, when a friend in need calls for support, or when the sun breaks
through the winter sky and we want to just go out and play.
Our network is constantly expanding and discovering
new services. I invite you to take a look at our Find
a Provider system, which just received a makeover.
If some of the services do not sound familiar, check out the
Glossary of Wellness Services or call a
provider to get your questions answered.
We are always looking for new providers to join us, so if there are service
providers who have helped you along your path, please forward this newsletter
to them. As always, you can visit our website to purchase
Wellness Possibilities Gift Certificates for
any occasion. It's always appropriate to give the gift of Wellness!
There are so many ways to improve your quality of life--physically, mentally,
emotionally and spiritually. Even if a particular modality is not of
immediate use to you, it is our hope that someone in your circle will
benefit from your exposure to this information.
Your friend on the path,
Dawn Noble
This issue's spotlight: ORGANIZING FOR WELLNESS

ORGANIZING
FOR WELLNESS
|
|
A
Message from the Editor,
Linda Eve Diamond
Welcome to spring! If you haven't already, it may be
time to take action on a common springtime activity--getting organized!
You might be surprised to see "organizing" as a featured issue in a wellness
newsletter, but getting organized is a powerful step toward creating wellness.
Although most of us live with clutter or disorganization to some degree, few of
us feel truly comfortable living in a space where we have to spend so much time
looking for lost items.
Some of us have long histories of clutter and are frustrated by the constant
struggle. Some of us have long been hoarders and savers, and for others
the clutter began more recently with hectic schedules, physical illness,
depression, or anxiety. In all these cases, the clutter adds to feelings of
depression and anxiety, making it even harder to clean up. This cycle
keeps us trapped, both in our clutter and in these difficult emotional states.
Disorganization can range from not being able to find
lost items to messes that are hazardous to our health or well-being, and
they can even keep us from being as social as we might like to be. Most people
fall into the middle of the spectrum somewhere; we all know the anxiety
that comes when things get out of control, and we know how much lighter and
happier we feel after spending that day or two reorganizing. But how long does
it last? When the mess and disorder feel out of control, we wish it were
somebody else's problem. We know the change would help us to be more
focused, efficient, and clear-headed, but we don't seem to be able to handle it
ourselves. Whether we've created a mild case of clutter or fallen into
some serious home chaos, a professional organizer could be what we need to get
back on track.

PROFESSIONAL
ORGANIZERS
|
|
Sometimes we need a
little help--or a lot--with our space. Organizers are trained to come in
and help us put our "stuff" and our lives into order.
Who
can benefit from a professional organizer?
Most of us can benefit from the help of a professional organizer. Organizers
look at a scale to determine what level of help we need, how much time it will
take, and what our specific needs are. It might involve a whole-house
transformation or just a system for office filing and family
schedules. If you tend to save more than you have room for, collect things at
the detriment of your or your family's comfort, lose things on a regular basis,
or if the systems of your life aren't working smoothly, you would be surprised
to see the powerful changes that can come from working with a professional
organizer.
What
do organizers do?
Organizers come to your home or office, assess the situation, and get down to
the business of creating order. A good organizer will make you a part of the
process and teach you along the way.
Do the
results last?
Part of the process is that your organizer will help you create systems that
you can put into place and use comfortably. You can always call your
organizer back for a refresher and some refinement. Many organizers will have a
process for checking in with you to make sure that everything is still "in
place."
The organizer teaches you
both skills and systems to work with you on multiple levels for the
causes, effects, and solutions related to your individual situation. In the
end, you have to want to make changes yourself and be diligent with the systems
learned until they become natural patterns. This is much easier with an
organizer than trying to do it alone, because they also act as a kind of
personal coach. You are more likely to stay on track once you have made the
investment of time, resources, and energy needed to make a lasting change. |

by
Kathy Miller, Co-Founder of Wellness Possibilities
The first time I met Dawn who is a Professional Organizer, I told her, "That's
nice that you help people get organized. I don't need that kind of help,
but I'm sure others do." Ha! Almost six years later I am only
starting to feel like I have good systems that support my well-being.
Why is it that we turn down help so easily? I have pondered this and
watched myself in different situations. The reasons I found include:
-
Pretending I have it all together a/k/a pride or ego
-
Not understanding what is available or how much better life can be
-
Thinking I don't deserve it
I also noticed how much I like to help other people and this has been a good
motivator for reaching out for support. As I use resources, my life
becomes more manageable and I have more time and energy available to share my
gifts with others. Now if only I can get them to say "Yes!" when I offer.
